The California Pop & Jazz Council offers $1000 Scholarship!
Mr. John Clayton
joins with the California Pop and Jazz Council
to offer a $1000 Scholarship to a deserving young singer,
in the honoring of musician Howlett "Smitty" Smith.
The California Pop and Jazz Council
honored musician Howlett "Smitty" Smith this year,
in their 2nd annual "Dini" Awards Event, held at
Catalina's Jazz Club in Hollywood, California.
John Clayton, who appeared at the big event, joined with the Council to create a $1000 Scholarship for
young students of voice, honoring Howlett Smith.
This Scholarship is offered to young vocalists, between and including the ages of 18 to 25
You must be at least 18, and not older than 25 at the time of the audition, August 8, 2009.
$1000 will be awarded to a vocalist who sings in the genre of Pop, Jazz or Blues.
The criteria is:
The $1000 must go toward vocal studies (privately or enrolled at a college or university).

| Rules for the Audition: ~ Prepare 2 songs of different style (swing, bossa, ballad, etc.). ~ Songs must be memorized. You can either bring recorded tracks, or use the provided jazz pianist. If you choose to use the pianist, you must have a clearly written chart in your key. Charts must be submitted before the audition date. Submission Info: You must submit a recorded example of your singing.
